Nestled in the natural beauty of the Park Montemarcello-Magra, Brugnato is located on the banks of the river Vara. The aerial photos used to distinguish the core of an elliptical shape, built around the bishop's citadel as a fortified village circular. It all starts at Brugnato in the first half of the twelfth century, when the small village became a bishopric and the cathedral was built. The episcopal palace was built next to the cathedral. The Shrine of Our Lady of the Olive, on a hill not far from the town, is very old though renovated in the seventeenth century, and contains interesting works inside.
